For plumbing, heating, electrical, roofing, drainage and building firms of 3 to 50 people who run work from a phone line, a callback form and a diary that lives in someone's head. Fixed price, no per-user fees, and the code and hosting sit in your own accounts.

What goes wrong today

We read the public websites of 14 Scottish trades firms in October 2026 (from Fife and Perth to Aberdeen and Glasgow) looking at how a customer actually gets a job booked. This is what we kept seeing. It comes from their sites, not from talking to them, so treat it as a pattern to check against your own firm.

Booking that is really a request form

A 'Book online' or 'Book an MOT' page that is a form which emails someone, who then rings back to agree a slot. Garages, drainage and heating firms all did it. The customer waits, and the office re-types the details.

One phone line for emergencies and routine jobs

Emergencies, quotes and planned work arrive on the same number or inbox, so urgent jobs and next month's boiler service compete for the same attention.

Repeat work that depends on someone remembering

Annual gas services, landlord certificates and testing certificates come round every year. When the reminder is a note or a spreadsheet, repeat revenue leaks.

Several trades, several sites, one inbox

Firms of 30 to 40 people with plumbing, electrical and joinery under one roof, or two offices sharing one enquiries address, had no shared view of who is where.

What we would build

Every job starts from how your firm really works, found out in discovery. These are the building blocks we would expect to use.

Enquiry to quote to job

A request form that creates a job record, replies to the customer straight away, and carries the quote, the site address and photos through to the job sheet.

Engineer phone view

Each engineer sees their day, the address, the notes and the customer's history on a phone, and marks the job done with a photo.

Reminders that run themselves

Service and certificate due dates generate a reminder email or text to the customer, and a list for the office.

Quote calculator and chaser

Price lists and labour rates behind a calculator, and an automatic nudge when a quote has had no answer for a week.

We build on mainstream, well-documented tools and connect what you already pay for (accounts, email, payments, your website) so nobody types the same thing twice. If a standard job app (ServiceM8, Tradify and similar) already covers quoting, scheduling and invoicing for you, use it and we will tell you so on the call.

A system we have built

A Dundee landscaping and garden-maintenance firm of about seven staff had jobs, the rota and the quote calculator in three separate spreadsheets. We built one web app for the office and for crews on their phones: jobs, recurring visits, a rota, a quote calculator and time recording. It is live. The owner's week is far easier: assigning and keeping track of work is a breeze, invoices go out from the same place through QuickBooks, and each customer's history sits in one place. We are not publishing time-saved figures.

Conditions apply to every refund or fix promise on this page. The clock pauses while we are waiting for something from you, and you have to claim within set windows. The conditions are in our written order terms (Scots law, for business customers only), which come with every quote; ask for a copy at any time. If this page differs from the terms, the terms win. Fix One Thing is paid half to book and half when it is ready; larger projects are paid in stages set out in the quote. Not VAT registered, so these prices are what you pay. Hosting and third-party fees are quoted up front.

If an accountant or bookkeeper introduced you, we may pay them 10% of the build price after you have paid in full. You do not pay it, your price is the same, and the quote names the introducer and the fee before you accept.

Questions people ask first

What does it cost?

Three sizes, all fixed price for the scope written in the quote: Fix One Thing, one narrow job, at £950; a single-job tool from £2,950; and a connected business hub from £5,950, subject to written terms. Before any of those, a 15-minute call is free, and a £500 discovery gives you a written plan and a fixed quote. The £500 is credited to the build if you accept within 12 months, and if the quote is not one you would act on, tell us within 30 days of receiving it and we refund the £500 in full (once per business). There are no per-user fees. Hosting and third-party charges (email sending, payments, a domain) are paid by you or passed on at cost, and the quote lists them. We are not VAT registered, so the figure you see is the figure you pay. Conditions apply to every refund or fix promise: the clock pauses while we wait for you, and you must claim within set windows. They are set out in our written order terms, which come with every quote and which win over this page; ask us for a copy at any time.

Who owns the software, the code and the hosting?

The code repository, the hosting account and the domain are set up in your own accounts from day one, with us added as a user, so nothing sits on our side that you cannot see or reach, and we never lock you out over a dispute. When you have paid in full, and any refund window has ended, we assign you the rights we own in the custom code we wrote for you (clause 9 of our written order terms), with a signed assignation sent to you afterwards. We keep our own reusable components and licence them to you, and open-source parts keep their own licences. We build with AI coding assistants, and we do not promise that copyright exists in code an AI wrote. The terms set this out.

What if you disappear, or stop answering?

We are one person, so we plan for that instead of promising it will not happen. Because the repository, hosting and domain are in your accounts, any competent developer can take over without asking us. Every build comes with a plain-English handover document (what it does, where it lives, how to restore it) kept in your repository, and a Business hub also gets a recorded walkthrough. We use mainstream, widely known tools rather than anything exotic. If Liam cannot continue, the written terms say you get everything in your accounts and a refund for work not yet delivered. We do not yet have a named backup developer. The optional care plan keeps backup checks and monitoring running, and you can end it with 30 days' notice.

What about data protection and privacy?

Your customer data stays in your own accounts. Where we handle personal data for you (for example on a care plan), you are the controller and we are your processor, under a written data-processing addendum. We build with AI coding assistants. We aim to build and test with made-up data and to keep your customers' and patients' records, passwords and secrets away from them, but we cannot promise that nothing personal is ever included, because the content you give us can contain names and contact details. If we find personal data has reached an AI tool, we tell you. If a fault can only be diagnosed with real data, we ask you in writing first. Only the people you choose can see your data, and we ask for the minimum access we need to do the work.

Do you have professional indemnity insurance?

Not at present. We say so on the page and in the terms rather than leave you to find out. If you need a supplier with that cover, tell us in writing before you accept a quote. If we cannot get it on reasonable terms, you can withdraw before work starts and we refund anything you have paid.

Is a ready-made app better for me?

Sometimes. If a standard job app (ServiceM8, Tradify and similar) already covers quoting, scheduling and invoicing for you, If it does what you need, use it: it will cost less and we will say so on the call. We are worth a call when your process has a twist that those tools handle badly, or when you would rather pay once than per user per month for ever.

Will my engineers actually use it?

It has to work on a phone with one hand and wet fingers, so we design the engineer view first and test it with your people before the office screens. If it is not easier than the current way, they will not use it, and we would rather find that out in discovery than after the build.

Who you would be dealing with

TurboKast Studio is run by Liam Humphreys, in Dundee. We build with AI coding assistants, directed by Liam and checked by automated tests on every change, which is how we can quote fixed prices below typical agency rates. You deal with one person, not an account manager, and the terms say what happens if Liam cannot continue (we do not yet have a named backup developer).
